Billy Wolfe on the Island in 2006
Walter Paterson Neill who died in 1978 bequeathed the farm of Keills to the Scottish National Party. Billy Wolfe who was chairman of the party at that time recognised the historic importance of the island and it was retained when the rest of the farm was sold.
The Island is now owned and managed by the Eilean Mor MacCormick trust. This was registered as a charity in 2000 and has the charity registration number SCO 30489.

Aims
The aims of the trust are:-
A To hold the island in perpetuity for the recreational, educational and cultural enjoyment for the public at large.
B Manage the Island and its natural resources and its built or made resources to the highest possible standards of conservation in cooperation with Historic Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage and their successors.
C To make provision in the interest of social welfare of facilities for recreational and other leisure time activity available to the public at large with a view to improving their condition of life.

Some of the work the trust volunteers have done
BIlly Wolfe envisaged a visitor centre and this was started in 1995. It was built from stone gathered on the Island.
There is always on going maintainence  and upgrades that the volunteers are involved with.
Other work the volunteers have been involved with includes improving access, built a jetty, control blackthorn, making maintaining and improve paths and steps, planted trees, arranged an archaeological survey.
Today in the visitors centre there is a small exhibition depicting various aspects of the Island.
When the volunteers come to the Island they have to be selfsufficient and bring their own tents and food.
